George R. Low Pine Bush, NY George R. Low, 90, of Pine Bush, New York passed away at home on Sunday, June 5th, 2016. He was surrounded by family at the time of his death. Born in Pine Bush, New York on May 13, 1926 to Mary Frances Cooper and William Low he spent his life in Pine Bush, the town he loved. George served in the 135th Engineer Combat Battalion as a Private First Class during World War II where he was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and WWII Victory Medal and was on the second Honor Flight from the Hudson Valley. George spent 37 years with the US Postal Service, including 20 as Postmaster, over 30 years as a director of the Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan, 12 years on the Town of Crawford Assessment Board of Review, 11 years on the Pine Bush School Board and four years as Park Commissioner. He has been very active in many Pine Bush service organizations including: Past Commander of the G. Paul Bettinger Post American Legion #1308, the VFW, Past President of the Pine Bush Ambulance Corp where he founded the annual 5K race, Coach, Manager and Umpire of the Pine Bush Little League, Meals on Wheels, and past Fire Commissioner and past Assistant Chief of the Pine Bush Fire Department. He was an active outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed spending time at the Iroquois Hunting and Fishing Club where he served as a President and Director. He also liked spending time with his McDonald’s friends and playing cards at the Pine Bush Library. George was predeceased by his loving bride of 53 years, Helen, his son George William Low and his sister Mary Schmidt. He is survived by his daughter Terry Martini, her husband Frank and their children Daniel and Elizabeth, his daughter Coby Low, his son Steve Low and his wife Anne, and their children Keirstin and Steven and his granddaughter Morgan Hood. Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 8, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham Rd Pine Bush NY 12566. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday June 9, 2016 at 10am at the Mountainview United Methodist Church 91 Maple Ave Pine Bush, with Pastor Robert B. Hewitt officiating. Burial will take place in New Prospect Cemetery with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers please make donations to: Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties Inc. 800 Stony Brook Ct.
