Robert J. Brooks, a Machinist for Spence Engineering in Walden and longtime resident of the area, passed away at his home on Wednesday April 4, 2018. He was 89. The son of the late Joseph L. Brooks and Olga Birr Kwederis, he was born on June 20, 1928 in Brooklyn NY. A Veteran of the US Navy, Bob served his country from 1946-1949. He was a member of the VFW, an avid poker player, and dedicated almost 40 years to area youth as an Umpire for both the Pine Bush Little League and High School baseball, highlighting his career as an Umpire for both the Big League and Little League World Series. Above all Bob was dedicated to and adored his family. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth at home, children, Liz Papesca and her husband Bob of Pine Bush, and Tony Brooks and his wife Beth of Knoxville, TN, grandchildren, Daniel, Thomas, Michael, Felicia and her husband Clint, Becky, Steven and his wife Chelsea, and Maggie. Bob is further survived by several nieces and nephews, and is also predeceased by his brother, Ludger Brooks and his step father, Joseph Kwederis. Visitation will be held on Sunday April 8, 2018 from 1-4pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham Rd Pine Bush, NY. Funeral services will be offered on Monday April 9, 2018 at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Robert B. Hewitt officiating.
