Harold J. Smith (Smitty) of Walker Valley passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side early Sunday morning, May 4, 2025 at the age of 93.
The son of the late Harold and Alice Smith, he was born April 14, 1932 in Glendale, NY. He was raised in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY where he met the love of his life, Florence, whom he married in 1954 after he served in the Korean War.
Smitty was an active member of the Infant Savior Church. He was also involved in many activities which included being a sports coach, member of the American Legion, past President of the Walker Valley Senior Citizens, and a participant of the Hudson Valley Honor Flight of 2017.
Harold has touched many lives in different ways throughout the community and will be deeply missed by all.
In 1973, Harold and his wife moved to Walker Valley with their four children. He is survived by his wife Florence of 70 years, his daughter Sharon (Cesar), sons Glenn (Kathy), Scott, Harold (Christine). He was a proud grandfather to Stephanie (Chris), Casey, Ryan, Kathleen (Finn), Mari-Ann (JT), Jack, Daniel, and Sarah. He’s also a proud great-grandfather to Esperanza, Moriah, Christopher, and James. Harold is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Burman.
Visitation will be held on Thursday May 8, 2025 from 4-7pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham Rd. Pine Bush, NY 12566. Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday May 9, 2025 at 10am at the Church of the Infant Savior. 22 Holland Ave. Pine Bush, NY 12566.
