Donald R. Horton Obituary

Donald R. Horton

Pine Bush, NY

Donald R. Horton, 59, of Pine Bush, NY, passed away unexpectedly on June 23, 2025. Born on April 28, 1966, in Montgomery, NY, Donald was the son of the late Clarence and Muriel Horton. He spent his early years working alongside his Aunt Marge on her farm, and later with his lifelong best friend Morris Cooper, doing farm work and various jobs that shaped his incredible work ethic.

Donald went on to work with Laborers’ Union Local 17 of Orange County and Local 754 of Rockland County until his retirement. He was a proud and passionate member of the Sullivan County Coon Hunters Association, where he shared many memories with his beloved Redbone Coonhounds, Ruby and Buddy.

In retirement, Donald started a new chapter of life—one filled with travel and adventure. He and his wife, Roxanne, shared 28 beautiful years of marriage, built on love and devotion. Alongside their five beloved beagles—Lucy, Valentine, Blaze, Skylar, and Nova—they set out to explore the country together. Whether it was on the road, spending time in the sun, or exploring new places, every mile was a memory. Together they were soaking up life, side by side.

Donald’s greatest joy in life was the time he spent with his son, Tristen. Whether they were hunting, fishing, golfing, or working on a car. Don was more than a father—he was a mentor, a best friend, and his son’s biggest supporter.

Donald is survived by his wife, Roxanne Horton; his son, Tristen Horton (Hannah); and his stepson, Shawn Olsen (Lorien). He is also survived by his siblings: Tammy Horton, Clarence “Jay” Horton (Barbara), Ethel “Midge” Barnes, Edwin Horton (Joyce), and Arlene Smith (Clifford), along with many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Clarence Horton; his mother, Muriel Horton; and his sister, Charlotte Puleo.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father, loving brother, cherished uncle, and loyal friend. Many would say Donald was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. His generosity, strength, and big heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
