Donald W. Carey, a Retired Lieutenant for NYSDOC for 32 years, and longtime resident of the area, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday January 1, 2026. He was 88. The son of the late Catherine Albrecht Carey, he was born on February 18, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY. A Veteran, Donald served his country in the US Navy from 1954-1957. Donald was devoted, loving husband, father and grandfather. He was married to his wife Ilene for 65 years and always put his family first. We spent many years vacationing at Cayuga Lake as a family, making memories that would last our lifetimes. Donald love to fish and hunt and was a lifetime member of the Wallkill Rod and Club. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Ilene (Jolivette) Carey, daughters, Corinne Geoghegan, and Denise Harrison (Paul), son, Michael Carey, grandchildren, Michael Carey (Elise), Ashley Rodriguez (Josh), Alex Geoghegan (Sarena), Sarah Orellana (Francisco), and Valerie Harrison, great grandchildren, Joziah, Jeremiah, Edmond, Moria, and Jack, sister, Catherine Bufalo and Aunt Irene Diehl, nephews, Jeff and Jimmy Bufalo, cousin, Stephen Diehl and several other cousins and nephews. Donald is predeceased  by his mother, Catherine Carey, his brother, Edwin Carey and his son, Daniel Carey.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 6, 2026 from 10am-1pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham Rd.  Pine Bush, NY. Funeral services will be offered at 1pm.
