Clara Galazzo

Pine Bush, NY

Mary Clara (Iannarelli) Galazzo passed away peacefully on Sunday April 26, 2026 at home. She was 97 years old, the daughter of Gennaro and Anna DelPozzo Iannarelli. She was born on September 6, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY. She was the youngest of 4 children. Her siblings were Stephen Cerniglia b. 1922, Victoria (Iannarelli) Freire b. 1925 and Vincent Iannarelli b. 1926.

She graduated from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn, then worked at Guardian Life Insurance in Manhattan while taking college courses. She and her family would spend summers in Walker Valley in their summer bungalow on Grossi Lane.

Clara met the love of her life, Livio (Lee) Galazzo, on summer vacation in Walker Valley and they married on April 8, 1961 at St. Finbar’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn. She gave birth to her son Stephen on April 8, 1962 and her daughter Geri on January 19, 1964.

After her children entered school, Clara decided to go back to work part-time and started her employment in the Pine Bush School district. She worked as a teaching assistant for one year and then transferred to work in a position in the high school cafeteria. She worked as a cashier in the cafeteria until 1997 when she retired. Clara enjoyed her job and the students who she saw everyday. 

After Livio and Clara retired, they spent the winter months as snowbirds in Greenacres Florida. Clara’s brother Steve and his wife Josephine were their Florida neighbors until they each passed in the early 2000’s. 

Clara is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years; Livio (Lee) Galazzo, her son Stephen Galazzo and his partner Immaculada (Mackie) Rondon of Cold Spring, her daughter Geri Romano and her husband Alfred Romano, Jr. of Wallkill, her grandchild Gianna (Bennie) Galazzo of Cheverly Maryland, her granddaughter Giulia Romano of Wallkill, her sister Victoria (Iannarelli) Freire of Brooklyn, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday July 18, 2026 from 12:30pm -3:00pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc.1525 Burlingham Rd Pine Bush NY 12566. Burial of ashes will take place on Wednesday July 22, 2026 at 10am at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen, NY.
