Reuben Frederick Weed
Walker Valley, NY
Reuben Frederick Weed, a retired NYS Correctional Lieutenant and
lifelong resident of the area, passed away after several months'
illness on Wednesday July 31st, 2013 at Orange Regional
Medical Center in Middletown. He was 78. The son of the
late James F. Weed and Irma Hulse Weed, he was born on May 12, 1935
in Middletown, NY. Along with his love of Walker Valley, Reuben had
a passion for his 2 favorite destinations, Cape Cod and Hawaii. He
was an avid hunter and fisherman and life member of the Walker
Valley Sportsman Association, past member of the Walker Valley Fire
Co., and member of the Masonic Lodge 627 in Walden. Reuben
more recently volunteered with Meals on Wheels in which he
thoroughly enjoyed providing the service to people. He also
volunteered his time for the Pine Bush Little League. Reuben was a
1954 graduate of Pine Bush High School, and a Master Carpenter who
loved and enjoyed wood working. Prior to his passing, Reuben
accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour and then was baptized.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Julia at home; 4 sons, Jack
Weed and his wife Jill, Daryl Weed and his wife Janet, Kyle Weed
and Scott Weed, 2 grandchildren; John and Kelsey Kober, brothers;
Thomas Weed and Jesse Weed and Glen Lillemoen, sister; LouAnn
Hansen, numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Reuben was
predeceased by his brother, James Weed and his sister, Naomi
Sheeley. The family wishes to thank all those who administered fine
medical care given to Reuben during the past several months
especially the staff at Ellenville Regional Hospital and ORMC.
Visitation will be held on Sunday August 4, 2013 from 2-4 &
7-9pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham Rd
Pine Bush NY. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday August
5, 2013 at 10am at the funeral home with Pastor Robert B. Hewitt
officiating. Burial will take place in the family plot in Walker
Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the
Walker Valley Fire Co., PO Box 370, Walker Valley, NY 12588.
