Albert R. Martin
Thompson Ridge, NY

Albert R. Martin of Thompson Ridge, NY passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Sapphire Nursing Home. He was 79. Albert was born on October 27, 1938 in Wilmington DE to the late Albert and Helen(Walsh) Martin. Albert grew up in Wilmington, DE where he finished his education and served a short period in the Army before being discharged as a result of his color blindness. He then moved onto California where he became Vice President of a large bank. After a few years there he realized his true calling was farming and training Thoroughbred racehorses. He did that for many years both in California and Oregon before finally moving back to the East Coast and solely breeding and training Thoroughbreds. His greatest accomplishment was running 2nd in the 1990 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga with Beaudaspic. He loved and cared for his horses deeply and always made sure they came first. He continued in this business right up until the last couple years of his life.  As a father, Albert instilled responsibility, patience, integrity, and his love for all animals in his daughter, Cheyenne. Albert is survived by his daughter, Cheyenne, his ex-wife, Connie Torres, and several close family friends. There will be no services.  Memorial contributions in Al's name may be made to Live & Let Live Farm Inc. 20 Paradise Ln. Chichester, NH 03258.
