Ambrose C Burger Jr. (Jake), 76, of Pine Bush, N.Y. passed away at home Saturday, December 4, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Jake was born on May 6, 1945 at St Luke’s in Newburgh NY. He is preceded in death by his parents Ambrose C Burger and his Mother Marie (Hulsart) Burger- Scott as well as his brother, Arley Burger. Growing up Jake attended Walden High School and then joined the service. He honorably and proudly served his country in the US Navy, stationed in Charleston, SC. His division was activated during the Cuban missile crisis. Upon returning home he met and married his loving wife, Ruth Sweed, which they have spent the last 57 years together. Jake was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is a retired officer of the Wallkill Correctional Facility which he spent 30 years working. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Albany, NY, NYSCOBA: Correction Officers Union, Orange Lake Fish and Game Association, as well as the Masonic Lodge #627 F + A.M. Wallkill. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Ruth Burger (Sweed); three daughters, Lori Newhall and her husband Leon, Melissa Lellek and Mike, and Kelly Bruyn and husband Greg. 9 Grandchildren, Erica Walentin and husband Josef, Kayla Costello, Johnny Lellek and wife Brittany, Ashley Lellek, Jessica Lellek, Angela Bruyn and partner Matt, Kyle Bruyn and partner Sara, Amanda Newhall and husband Pavel and Jayson Newhall. Brothers Duane Burger, Garth Burger and wife Gail, Merwin Burger, Gerald Burger, and Marie Burger Zaccagnino and husband Mike, Special Niece Theresa Schuttler/ Reggero/(Fritz), Special cousin Maureen Mauer and husband Bob. He is also survived by many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday December 11, 2021 from 1pm - 4pm at the William M.
