Susan Ann Wittenberg
Montgomery, NY

Susan Ann Wittenberg (Schleier) of Pine Bush, NY passed away on November 29,  2022 at the age of 72 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 11, 1950 in Norwalk, CT to Edward Jr. and Winifred Schleier. Susan graduated from Wilton High School and went on to attend the University of  Bridgeport earning a bachelor's degree in Physical Education. She worked for the Pine  Bush Central School District as a Physical Education teacher, home tutor and coach for  multiple sports. After her retirement from teaching she went on to work for Cornell Cooperative Extension in Orange County as a Program Instructor. Survivors include  her husband Jeffrey of 48 years, son Daniel and his wife Julie of  Thompson Ridge, NY; daughter Kathryn and her partner Jason Muehr of Pine Bush,  NY; sister Martha and her husband William Smith of Fairfield, CT; brother Edward  Schleier and his wife Karen of Taylors, SC; nephews William Smith, Jeffrey Smith and  Robert Schleier; niece Mary Cait Schleier; sister-in-law Marilyn DeAngelo; nephews Philip DeAngelo and Steven DeAngelo; aunt Joan Hart of Satellite Bach, FL and  numerous cousins.  She was especially proud of her six grandchildren, who always  brightened her smile: Ryan Wittenberg, Averie Klein, Kara Wittenberg, Wyatt Muehr, Emerson Muehr and Colton Muehr. All of those who knew her will remember her as either their coach in school or from  being seen at every possible sporting event of her children and grandchildren, cheering  them on.  She enjoyed spending time by her pool with a gin and tonic, softball in the  Pine Bush women’s league, golfing in the Winding Hills ladies league and was an avid gardener who meticulously maintained her lawn, vegetable and flower gardens.  Honoring her wishes, a private family service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, please  donate a pint of blood in her memory at your local Blood Center.  To leave an online condolence, please visit
