David Scott Sloat, known affectionately as Dave, passed away suddenly on June 20, 2024 in Middletown, NY, at the age of 58. The son of Richard Lee Sloat and Ann Phoebe Albrecht Sloat, he was born on June 25, 1965, in Middletown, NY. Dave grew up in Goshen and graduated from Goshen High School. Dave served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1983 to 1987, dedicating four years to serving his country with the pride and resilience that would mark the rest of his career and personal life. After his military service, he embarked on a professional path at Nepera Chemical Plant, where he worked from 1988 to 2005. While working full time, and raising his family he attended SUNY Orange and earned an Associate Degree with high honors. He later joined Control Associates Inc., where he remained until his passing in 2024. His colleagues remember him as a dedicated and persistent professional, respected for his ability to tackle challenging tasks with a smile. Outside of work, Dave was a genuine outdoors man who relished in activities like riding ATVs, camping, and fishing. He also enjoyed attending rock concerts with lifelong friends and cherished relaxing by the pool with his family, which was his favorite pastime. A loving and devoted husband, Dave is survived by his wife, Rose Sloat (nee Ketchum), and their daughters, Julianna and MaryGrace, both of whom are still at home. He also leaves behind his parents, Richard Lee Sloat and Ann Phoebe Sloat of Goshen NY; his brother, Richard Lee Sloat Jr. of Goshen NY; and his sisters, Rebecca Sauls of Ridgeland, SC, and Holly Skidgell of Hopewell Junction NY. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham Rd. Pine Bush, NY. Celebration of Life will be offered on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial with full Military Honors will be at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen, NY.
