Rita Nepper Bahrenburg

Rita Marie Nepper, a longtime resident of the area, passed away on June 21, 2024 in Middletown NY. She was 93. The daughter of the late Johannes and Emma Hoag Nepper, she was born on August 16, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY. Rita married Harold John Bahrenburg on  October 11, 1953 whom she lost on November 17, 1978 after 25 years of marriage.

Rita’s work outside of her home revolved around her love of children and retail.  Her first job was at Macy’s in NYC, followed by R. Edgar Clarke, Jeweler, Middletown. Once her children arrived, she focused on them. Later, she worked with challenged children for BOCES and preschoolers at Hopewell Nursery School. Her final job was at  Canal Towne Emporium in Wurtsboro, NY.

Rita loved to spend time with family and friends whether it be in Thompson Ridge or Lake Pleasant enjoying the laughter and enjoyment around a meal. The relationships she developed and activities in those places were important joys in her life.

Rita’s devotion to God was life long. Hopewell Presbyterian Church provided a home base for that faith. Hopewell was a part of her life from her marriage, baptism of children, member of and clerk of session, and the choir. Church family was another important facet of her life.

Rita has moved to one of the rooms in God’s house. There she will be     with the family and friends who moved on before her. She’s at peace.
Survivors include her daughter, Katherine Bahrenburg O’Connell and  husband George, and their daughters Allison and Megan O’Connell of Lake Pleasant, NY, her son, John Robert Bahrenburg, and  wife Susan, and their daughters Eliza and Sydney Bahrenburg of Thompson Ridge, NY.

A Memorial Service will be held at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, in Thompson Ridge, NY at 11 am on September 14, 2024. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the
Hopewell Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund in Rita’s name.
