John P. DeMatteis, a retired Postal Carrier for the USPS and resident of the area, passed away on Tuesday January 7, 2025 at Putnam Hospital. He was 95. The son of the late Marciano DeMatteis and Filomena D’Adieco DeMatteis, he was born on January 1, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY. John has lived an extraordinary and fulfilling life. In the early 1950s he played in the Minor League Baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers with his twin brother Salvatore. Shortly after John served in the Army during the Korean war from May 1951 to May 1953. John loved to play golf in his spare time for many years. Music, dancing, and sports were his language.

John was a remarkable man and will always be remembered for his ability to be solace and for his method in connecting with his loved ones. A true beacon of light he was able to brighten up a room with his animated storytelling and talent of making a crowd laugh. We love you, we will miss you and we will see you again. A beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, his survivors include his two daughters, Donna Baroniunas and Lydia Mercurio, two grandchildren, Megan and Keri, and four great grandchildren, Luca, Mila, Mackenzie, and Finn. He was also adored by his late wife, Marie DeMatteis. Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday January 14, 2025 at 10am at the Church of the Infant Saviour, 22 Holland Ave Pine Bush NY.
