Obituary of Leonard D. Lowenhaupt
Please share a memory of Leonard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leonard D. Lowenhaupt
Pine Bush, N.Y.
Leonard D. Lowenhaupt, a trucker, outdoorsman and loving husband,
died after a brief illness on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at St.
Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. He was 48.
A driver for New England Motor Freight in Montgomery, Leonard
spent the last six years hauling goods across the metropolitan
region in a Volvo truck he loved almost as much as his four dogs.
Rarely seen without his worn New York State Police cap, Leonard was
known for a quick smile and bawdy wit that helped him spark a
conversation with anyone, whether he was fishing for striped bass
on the Hudson or walking the Great Wall of China. Leonard is
deeply missed by his wife of seven years, Theresa A. Scott, owner
of the Pampered Pet in Pine Bush, and her sons, Brendan T. Scott,
husband of Irene Jay Liu; and Nicholas M. Brown, husband of Maureen
Brown. Leonard remained close friends with his first wife, Susan
Roda. The son of the late Frederick D. Lowenhaupt and
Joyce Kirchner Lowenhaupt, Leonard is survived by five sisters and
brothers, including Linda Martine, of Largo, Fla.; Elaine
Gillespie, of Wallkill, and her husband Robert; Frederick H.
Lowenhaupt, of Palmetto, Fla.; Susan Lowenhaupt, of Walden; and
Elizabeth Brumback, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and her husband
William. His nieces and nephews include William Brumback and
Robert, James and Tennille Gillespie. Leonard was born March
30, 1966, in Hackensack, N.J., and grew up in Tillson Lake, N.Y.,
where he served as a lifeguard and attended Wallkill High School.
In his 20s, he followed his family south and settled in St.
Petersburg. There, he worked as a customer service representative
for Southern Vehicle Products, which made lights for emergency
service vehicles. Leonard met Theresa during a visit home in
2006 and they were married the following year in a beachside
ceremony in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. The pair never spent a day
apart until Leonard's diagnosis with cancer in April. Friends
and Family may gather for a celebration of Leonard's life on
Saturday June 28, 2014 from 1-4pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral
Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham Rd Pine Bush, NY 12566. A memorial
serevice will be conducted at 3:00pm at the funeral home with

donations may be made in Leonard's name to the Humane Society of
Walden, 2489 Albany Post Rd., Walden, NY 12586. Arrangements
entrusted to the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc.
