Andrew Margetanski, 93 passed away on April 1, 2010 at home surrounded by family. Born on April 15, 1916 in Lykens, PA to the late John Margetanski and Anna Hajduk, who emigrated from Kosicka Bela, Slovakia. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the 106th Infantry who later served in the Medical Services Division at Tripler General Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii from 1941-1945. He received the American Defense Service Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. Married to the late Amelia Krajci on October 11, 1947 he was a loving and devoted husband for 56 years. He was always at her side during the long illness that took her from him six years ago. Retired in 1981, he closed his NYC business, Partial Denture, Inc after 40 years and moved to Burlingham, NY. He is survived by his daughters, Andrea M. York and her husband Harry of Middletown, NY and Amelia M. Nilsen and her husband, Tore of Holmestrand, Norway, grandchildren, Jennifer York, Melissa Carabetta and her husband David, and Monica Nilsen, half sister Betty Lyon of Trumbull, Connecticut and his lifetime friend and Army buddy, John Earley of Pine Bush, NY. In addition to his beloved wife, Amelia Krajci, he was predeceased by his brothers, Frank, George, and John Margetanski, and Bill M. Begani, sisters, Mae Del Piano, Ann Widmer, Rose Hunter, and Catherine Palarino, half brother Joseph Margetanski and half sisters Marguerite Bennett and Katherine Juliano, step brother John Welch, and step sister Anna Margetanski. Andrew was a kind and generous man who was loved by all. His success in life was not measured by fame, power, or money but by a happy marriage, a loving home and in his words “a beautiful family”. He will be missed by all. Visitation will take place on Monday April 5, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham Rd Pine Bush, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday April 6, 2010 at 10AM at the Church of the Infant Saviour with Fr. Kevin Gallagher officiating. Andrew will then be joined with his wife at Arlington National cemetery where a funeral with Military Honors will take place on May 26, 2010. A special thank you to Dr. Robert Dinsmore and Hospice of Orange County for all the care they showed Andrew.
