George E. Cox Pine Bush, NY George E. Cox, a resident of the area since 1985, passed away on Friday April 30, 2010, at his home. He was 85. The son of the late, George E. Cox Sr, and Alice Coyne Cox, he was born on November 13, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY. George was a Communication Sergeant with the 275th Infantry, 3rd Division, during the Central Europe, Naples-Foggia, Rhineland, Rome-Arno, and Southern France Campaigns during WWII. He fought in Audie Murphy’s Company and was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts with Gold Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star, French Legion of Honor Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. After his tenure in United States Army, George joined the Local 4 Stagehand Union in Brooklyn, NY. Survivors include his children, Barbara Perkins and her husband Keith of West Virginia, Geri Dobbin and her husband Gregg of Castile, NY, Cindy Maieli and her husband Chris of Maryland and Mark Cox and his wife Dawn of Brooklyn Heights, NY. George is further survived by his 7 grandchildren, Michael Kister and his wife Kate, Mickey, Tom, and Katie Dobbin, Melissa and Matthew Maieli, and Emma Faith, his 3 brothers, Terry, Eddie and Larry Cox, 3 sisters, Patricia Greco, Joan Pollock and Carole Redding, and his great granddaughter, Alexandra Kister. He is also survived by his caregiver and close friend Joyce O’Brien and many other friends as well as his nieces and nephews. George is predeceased by his wife, Roberta Cox and his brother, Robert Cox. Visitation will be held on Monday May 3, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc, 1525 Burlingham Rd. Pine Bush, NY. Funeral Services will take place at 8:30pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Arlington National Cemetery, in Fort Myer, VA.
