Smith H. Northrop a lifelong resident of the area and retired
Truck Driver for Preston Trucking in Newburgh, passed away at St.
Luke's Hospital in Newburgh on Friday December 19, 2014. He
was 83. The son of the late John G. Northrop and Dorothy
Ruger Northrop, he was born on April 18, 1931 in Poughkeepsie,
NY. A Veteran, Smith served his country from 1950-1954
in The United States Air Force. Smith was a member of the
Catholic War Veterans, the Manchester Hunt Club in Poughkeepsie,
and a parishioner of the Church of the Infant Saviour. Survivors
include his wife of 56 years, Shirley at home, his son; Smitty
Northrop of Middletown, his grandson, Airman 1st Class Camrin
Northrop of Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina., sisters; Helen
Teator, Dorothy Northrop, Mary Secor, and Margaret Niver and
several nieces and nephews. Smith is predeceased by his
brothers John, Charlie and Howard and his sister, Lou Perrotta.
Cremation was private and held at the convenience of the
family. Memorial donations can be made to the Catholic War
Veterans, 161 Center Street, Pine Bush, NY. Arrangements entrusted
