James (Jim) Arvanetes, 80 November 5, 1929- December 27, 2009 Pine Bush, NY James Arvanetes of Westwood NJ,Tallman NY, Charlestown RI, and Pine Bush, NY, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at the Horton Campus of ORMC. He was 80. The son of the late Paul and Mary (Damalas) Arvanetes, Jim was born in NYC. In addition to his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce (Lejeune), he is survived by his son, James E., his daughter Jill (Arvanetes) Wilson, son-in-law, Robert, grandchildren; Dean, Melina, Baileigh and Johanna Wilson, also of Pine Bush, NY, and his beloved Pug, Jeannie. Other survivors include his sister, Ruby McCracken, of Goodland, KS. His cousin, Sophie Maizys of Whippany, NJ, his brother-in-law, Harvey Holderle, of Rochester, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Evangelo Arvanetes. Jim served in the United States Air Force. He was graduated from Columbia University and received his Masters degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He retired from the East Ramapo Central School District and was an ardent student and teacher of History. Jim loved to fish, travel, read and cook. He also received many awards for his paintings and photographs. He was a member of the Mountain View United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Paul A. Bettinger Post, and the Pine Bush Seniors. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 1:00pm at the Mountain View United Methodist Church, Route 302, Pine Bush, NY .In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MVUMC Memorial Building Fund, PO Box 238 Pine Bush, NY 12566.
