Kathleen,
I'm so sorry to hear about Chris. I've been thinking about him and the couple of years that we spent as partners working in the 9th. One thing that always amazed me about him was his sense of compassion. Victims always responded to him because they knew that he cared. People just opened up to him and wanted to tell him what happened to them. He was patient with them and never rushed them. Sometimes the radio was jumping off the hook with calls but he knew what was more important. Typical jaded cop, I wanted to get done with the job quickly so we could move on to the next one, but Chris wouldn't let me. He gave each human being we encountered the time that they needed.
He was always talking about you and the kids, so very proud of every accomplishment. And he was smart as a whip. I knew that he was going to go places in the Department quickly. And he did. If the World Trade Center didn't take him, he would've had a very long and illustrious career.
I can't even fathom the depth of your pain. Please let me know if there's anything that you or the kids need. I'm just a phone call away.

Kathy,
I know we have never met but this is Joe, Marie Rocco's husband. Just heard about Chris's passing and wanted to offer my condolences from both Marie and I. I never met Chris but Marie always spoke so fondly of him and the times they spent in New Dorp. I think he carried her out of the riots on his shoulder. For years I thought his name was Chris Drucker because we both still had some good SI accents going on. Marie was devastated when she found out Chris was ill, and Im glad they got to correspond a bit. Im not sure if she got up to see him that summer of 2012, but I hope she did.
I know what its like to lose a spouse, and I can only offer thoughts and prayers, and a sincere hope for you that you can get through this difficult time. I like to think that Chris and Marie are hanging out in a park somewhere drinking a beer and reminiscing about old times. Maybe that thought can give you a little comfort too.
God Bless,
Joe Greco
