Katherine Waffenschmidt Blauvelt, NY Formerly of Pine Bush, NY Katherine Waffenschmidt was born in Armenis Romania on November 18, 1923 and died in the New York metro area on April 12, 2011 of natural causes. Following internment in a Russian Concentration Camp, as part of the consequences of World War II, she immigrated to the United States on August 17, 1951. In the spring of 1952, she met her future husband John at a NYC Transylvanian Saxon Club; they were married on November 23, 1953 at the Mozart Hall on East 86th Street in NYC. She worked in the gourmandise services industry, including a stint as the Executive Chef at Scudder, Stevens & Clark Inc, a provider of investment services for private and institutional clients. After living in Manhattan and Queens, where they raised their son, Katherine and John settled in Burlingham NY, by Pine Bush, in 1992. Katherine is predeceased by her husband John, sister Anna, and brother Gustav. She is survived by her sister Sofia, brother Martin, son John, daughter-in-law Patricia, grandchildren Bianca and Johnny, sister-in-law Regina and daughter Kathy, nephew Peter and wife Diane, as well as 10 other nieces and nephews, 19 grandnieces and grandnephews, and 8 great grandnieces and great grandnephews. Visitation will be held on Friday April 15, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, 1525 Burlingham RD Pine Bush, NY. Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday April 16, 2011 at 11:00am at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in New Prospect Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the UNFPA's Campaign to End Fistula; checks should be made payable to "Americans for UNFPA," and sent to: Americans for UNFPA, UNFPA's Campaign to End Fistula, 370 Lexington Avenue, Suite 702, New York, NY 10017.
