Obituary of Sarah Burns

Sarah A. Burns Formerly of Pine Bush Sarah A. Burns, an Elementary School Teacher at PS 32 in the Bronx, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly on July 19, 2005. She was 24. The daughter of James and Lorraine Carey, she was born June 12, 1981 in Bronx, N.Y. Sarah was a member of the United Federation of Teachers, Bushkill Community Church, and Harmony Baptist Church. Sarah graduated from Pine Bush High School in 1999 and then graduated Nyack College in 2003. She was currently enrolled in East Stroudsburg University pursuing her Masters in Reading Instruction. A family statement reads: "Sarah was known by all for her loving kindness and self-less sacrificial love and was the person we all wish we could be." Survivors include her husband, Clifford Burns at home, her parents James and Lorraine Carey of Bushkill, sisters Jennifer and Brittany Carey of Bushkill, her grandmother Caroline Pfeifer, her in-laws Royce H. and Pamela Burns of Pine Bush, brothers-in-law, Peter Burns and his wife Beth of Tenn., Russell Burns and his wife Jackie of Middletown, and Royce A. Burns of Pine Bush, one niece, Kaitlyn, grandmothers Dorothy Wilson of Pine Bush and Claire Bivona of Newburgh. She is also survived by several aunts and uncles. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, 1525 Burlingham Road, Pine Bush. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 22, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Harmony Baptist Church, 1790 Rte. 211E, Middletown. Pastor Mason Whitley will be officiating. Burial will be in New Prospect Cemetery, Pine Bush. Memorial donations may be made in Sarah's name to the American Cancer Society, 419 E. Main St., Suite 307 B, Middletown, NY 10940.
