Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joan M. Carr Bloomingburg, NY Joan Carr of Bloomingburg, NY passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, March 9, 2017. She was 84. The oldest daughter of Oscar Peterson and Marie Hurley, she was born in Bay Ridge Brooklyn May 8, 1932. For most of her life she was a stay at home mom and was the heart and soul of the Carr family. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved nothing greater than caring for her family. She opened her heart and home to any of her children who were ever in need. Her love and spirit ensured that holidays became a cherished memory for everyone in the family and the Thanksgiving Day meal will always now be lacking her presence and her mashed potatoes, stuffing and turkey. Mom loved to have fun and so enjoyed just being with family talking, reminiscing and laughing. Mom wanted everyone around her to be happy and when you weren’t she took great strides to cheer you up. In her quiet times, you could find mom feeding the birds and squirrels, gardening and enjoying being outside. Mom had a special relationship with her only daughter Deb, being both a mom and best friend, and the two of them could often be found talking for hours in person or on the phone. She is predeceased by her husband, Henry, of 64 years, who passed away only a few short days ago. Dad called for mom and she went to be with him again. She is survived by her four children: Greg Carr and his wife Donna, Deborah Azierski and her husband Ed, Patrick Carr and his wife Deborah and Deacon Jack Carr and his wife Jennifer. She was affectionately known as “Nana” to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved very much: Katie VanSyckle, Steve Boylan, Matthew Boylan, Julie Dickson, Nick Azierski, Chris Carr, Greg Carr, Tim Carr, Tyler VanSyckle, Logan VanSyckle, Caiden Boylan. She is also survived by her two younger sisters Noreen Coles and her husband Ray and Gail Flaherty and her husband Rich and several nieces and nephews. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. www.wmgaganfuneralhome.com
