Loring “Gant” Gantner

Pine Bush, NY

Loring Joseph Gantner, a loving father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 11, 2017 at his residence in Pine Bush. He was 80. Loring was born to Leonie Dessimoz Gantner and Otto Gantner on June 16, 1937 and spent his early childhood in Yonkers. His family later moved to Walker Valley where they owned the Lakeside Rest. Loring was proud of his Swiss heritage and visited Switzerland in 1997, where he met relatives of his mother and father with whom he stayed in touch for many years. Loring retired as a manager of Washingtonville Agway after a long career with the company. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with friends, fishing, reading, gardening, and painting. He was a member of the Middletown Elks Lodge and was a charter member of the Hudson Valley Striped Bass Association.Loring leaves behind his daughter Linda and her husband Mark Doty of Pine Bush, NY, granddaughter Casey and her husband Ryan Bannon of Montgomery, NY, and granddaughter Amy Doty of Boston, MA. He is also survived by son Richard Gantner and his wife Carla, granddaughter Amber and her husband Mackenzie Kilkeary, and granddaughter Chelsea Gantner. Additionally, he leaves behind sister Heidi and her husband Francis Kallfelz of Ithaca, NY and  Heidi and Fran’s children and their families. Loring was predeceased by his parents, Leonie and Otto Gantner. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 5-8pm at William M. Gagan Funeral Home, 1525 Burlingham Road, Pine Bush,  NY. A memorial service will be offered on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at New Prospect Cemetery.
