Some pictures from her last 2-3 years. The final one was taken on Christmas Day, 2023, just about four weeks before she passed to the spirit world. On the day of her funeral, my dog Cinnamon was running loops around her condo searching for her. So sad. Love and miss you tons.

My grandmother lived a modest life that was rich with family. She was born at an ancestral farm in rural Ireland in a thatched-roof cottage that was built in the 1500-1600s. She went to school from 1st-8th grade, but was never given the opportunity to go to high school. It was only in her 40s that she passed her GED exams which allowed her to be certified as a nursing aid. This was after her husband passed tragically at the age of 51, leaving her a widow with 6 children. She worked until 70 years of age at Yonker's General Hospital, making barely above the poverty line.
However, she always kept her head up and focused on serving her family. I am so grateful for all she has done for us and am inspired by her dedication to making the best of many difficult situations.

For 23 years, my grandmother attended weekly church services at the Church of the Infant Savior close to home in Pine Bush, NY. She was well liked among the other parishioners and clergy, making many friends. Please enjoy these photos of the church, especially the intricate stained glass and outdoor Christ statue that welcomes worshipers as they enter. My grandmother made a final trip to her church for her funeral on January 27, which was well attended by friends and family. What a great place to celebrate such a long and meaningful life.

A historical fact about my grandmother is that her father, Matty O’Shaughnessy, appears in the iconic Depression-era photograph "Lunchtime atop a Skyscraper." This photograph was taken in 1932 when my great-grandfather was working as an immigrant ironworker, helping construct the RCA building in Rockefeller Center. He is the man all the way on the far left-hand side of the photograph. His first cousin, Sonny Glynn, appears on the opposite side on the far right. At this time, my grandmother was a young child living in a thatched-roof cottage in County Galway. Soon after, her father would return and use his earnings as a construction worker to build a two-story house and add land to their ancestral farm.

Pine Bush is home to the iconic Cup and Saucer Diner, just across the street from my grandma's house. I have fond memories of going with my grandmother and Aunt Barbara to the alien-themed restaurant that adopted its name from the fact that Pine Bush is the UFO capital of the Northeast. Back in the 1980s, residents claimed to have seen alien spacecraft in the clear skies above the hamlet, and people have been visiting ever since. If you're ever in town, please visit the alien museum on Main Street to see what all the rave is about.

Looking spry for 94! This photo was taken on New Year's Day 2023 at my grandmother's condo in Pine Bush, NY. My grandmother loved her retired years in peaceful Pine Bush close to family and the scenic Catskill Mountains, always providing a dramatic backdrop.

I was so sorry to hear Bridie had passed. She was a very special women who had the biggest heart and was so kind. She made our arrival to America easy and treated us as family though we are not blood relatives. I think about her every time I take down the cast iron pan she gave me when we moved to our first apartment in upstate NY. My deepest sympathy to all her family. The Florida Feeleys are very thankful to have gotten to spend this day with her as shown in the pics. We had a lovely chat catching Grandma Bridie up about our trip to Ireland in 2021 and showed her pictures of all the castles we visited. She made us yummy chips and onion dip, and we had great conversation over a nice lunch at her house.
We love you Grandma Bridie!

For my 23rd birthday, my grandmother took me to the church in which she was married 70 years ago (back in 1952). It’s a beautiful, basilica-style church in the East Village of Manhattan built in 1852 called Church of the Most Holy Redeemer. That was her first and only time visiting since her wedding day. Precious memory.
